South Park were left disappointed that that they were left empty handed after this 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cray Wanderers.
Ayling hit a long range effort over the bar and Lavery shot straight at Blue in the Cray goal. Wanderers looked a threat especially with their pace down the wings and this is where the only goal of the game came from in the 13th minute. Frederico in space got to the bye line and crossed to the far post where Frieter was on hand to head home from 8 yards. Cray thought they had doubled their lead in the 22nd minute however Power in climbing to head home another right wing cross had pushed the Park defenders out of his way and the referee rightly disallowed the goal. Smith’s shot from 25 yards looked goal bound until Nelson through his body in the line of the ball to block. Lavery had a shot blocked whilst Lovegrove’s follow up shot sailed over the bar. Pullin at full stretch headed away a dangerous Cray cross. Park had the perfect opportunity to level the scores in the 41st minute when Lavery was brought down and Park were awarded a penalty. Lavery got up but unfortunately for Park hit his spot kick over the bar. Power shot wide for Cray from 10 yards just before the break
Thomas moved across his line quickly to block a header from a right wing corner. Moody played in Lavery but his shot from the edge of the box was blocked. Lavery and Smith were both denied the opportunity to get shots away by the eager Cray defence. Thomas saved a long range free kick. With time running out Mazzone’s curling cross slipped through the hands of Blue and behind for a corner. Cray cleared the corner and with it went Park’s hopes.
Park then have successive home games against Herne Bay on Saturday and Corinthian-Casuals (14/11).
