South Park will feel hard done by as they bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup losing by a solitary goal to East Grinstead Town.
Park started brightly and for long periods of the first half looked the most likely to score. Leslie winning the ball high up the pitch forced Ceesay in the Town goal to push his shot away. Izokun’s curling right foot shot was only inches wide of the far post. A corner from the right was met by Lindo whose header was saved by Ceesay. The turning point in the game came in the 24th minute as Leslie ran onto to through ball with Ceesay rushing of his line. The Town keeper with his arms above his head handled outside the area as Leslie looked to be about to get on the end of his own lob. Everybody in the ground assumed the referee would send Ceesay off for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity however after consulting with his assistant the referee only produced a yellow card. Males free kick went narrowly wide of the post. Hogan’s shot for Town was deflected over the Park bar. Sollis then shot wide when he should have hit the target for the home side. Another Males free kick was deflected over the bar as the half ended goal less.
The home side broke the deadlock in the 48th minute when Lindo appeared to have been pushed under a high ball which allowed Sollis to win the ball and force a good save form Eacott with his outstretched right foot. Unfortunately for Park the ball fell kindly for Wilson who scored from close range. Eacott produced a fine fingertip save to deny Everett before tipping a header from Sollis over the bar. Sollis then headed a cross wide of the far post in what was Town’s most dangerous spell of the match. Leslie had a shot blocked and Ramazani shot straight at Ceesay. Males free kick was met by Healy at the far post but Ceesay saved comfortably. In the 86th minute Park were given a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Greenleaf. However Males spot kick was saved by Ceesay diving to his left. Hill then had a shot saved and Lindo’s effort was blocked as the home side held on to book their place in the next round.
Park are back in action on Bank Holiday Monday when they travel to Molesey, 3.00 pm kick off. On Saturday Park are at home to Bracknell.
