Considering the amount of possession that they had South Park will wonder how they came away from Faversham pointless as they were beaten 2-1.
Faversham had the first effort on goal when Monger’s shot was blocked by Elliott. Lovegrove and Smith combined to play in Elliot whose right foot shot flew over the bar. Another free flowing move found McElligott in space but he hit his shot over the bar from 18 yards. Thomas rushed off his line quickly to deny Griffiths on the edge of the area. Faversham took the lead in the 29th minute when Stannard’s cross to the far post found Carrington who brought the ball back inside to fire past Thomas with the aid of a deflection. McElligott once again in space hit a shot wide of the post as Park despite getting into some good positions failed to trouble Overland in the Town goal. Pullin bursting forward was bundled to the ground. Lavery’s free kick from 22 yards hit the end of the wall and was cleared. McElligott played the ball through to Mazzone whose shot on the turn went wide.
In the second minute of the second half Smith shot wide from ten yards. Lavery and Lovegrove combined well to play in Smith whose cross from the left was deflected behind for a corner. Pullin at full stretch cleared a Carrington cross from the right. Smith’s shot from Jackson’s knock down was deflected behind for a corner. The corner was only cleared to the edge of the area where Moody’s volley was blocked, the ball coming back to Moody and this time his shot was again blocked and for the third came back to the Park player who again had a shot blocked. Eventually Faversham cleared and once up the other end were awarded a penalty for a foul by Gallagher. Lovell made no mistake from the spot to double Town’s lead in the 80th minute. Park pulled a goal back in the 86th minute when Smith scored from the spot after Merchant had been fouled. Jackson had a shot blocked and McElligott following up shot wide. Park thought that they had levelled the scores in stoppage time as Lvery’s shot was only parried by Overland and Jackson was on hand to score from close range however the flag was up to indicate Jackson was offside.
Park now have successive home games with Shoreham the visitors to Whitehall Lane on Tuesday with Walton Casuals the opponents on Saturday.
