South Park will rue the sending off of JJ O’Sullivan just before half time as they were beaten 3-2 away at Hythe Town.
Thomas saved a speculative shot from Dos Santos with ease before Smith’s cross found McElligott who shot wide of the target. O’Sullivan found Jackson in space on the edge of the area but his shot flew over the bar. Moody’s free kick was only half cleared and the ball fell to McElligott whose shot from 20 yards was off target. Jackson’s flick on found Smith who burst into the Hythe area but just as he was about to shoot Aboagye slid in to clear the danger. Park broke the deadlock in the 31st minute when Smith’s corner dropped to Jackson who hit his shot from 10 yards into the roof of the net. A rare Hythe attack saw them win a corner and when the ball fell to Dickenson 20 yards out his shot was straight at Thomas. The turning point of the game came in the 45th minute when O’Sullivan was sent off for a reckless challenge on the Hythe winger.
Lavery replaced Smith at the start of the second half for Park. With the extra man Hythe began the second half on the front foot pushing Park back towards their own goal and it wasn’t long before they levelled the scores. From a quickly taken short corner on the left Palmer curled his shot from the edge of the area into the top corner giving Thomas no chance to make a save. Elliot’s quick throw found Lavery and his shot clipped the top of the bar with Godmon beaten. Jackson then had a shot saved. In the 63rd minute Lavery picked the ball up 45 yards from goal. The Park forward weaved his way into the Hythe area and shot past Godmon into the bottom corner to restore Park’s lead. Campbell shot wide from the edge of the area for the home side whilst Palmer hit a free kick from 22 yards wide of the post. Moody’s corner was met by Elliot and his header was deflected behind for another corner. Lavery cut in from the left and his shot from just inside the box was saved by Godmon. Hythe equalised in the 83rd minute when a free kick from 25 yards was bundled over the line by Dickenson. Hythe pinched the three points in the 88th minute when Campbell’s curling shot from the edge of the box found the corner of the Park net.
Park are back in action Tuesday when Hastings Utd are the visitors to Whitehall lane. On Saturday Park entertain Sittingbourne.
