Jack Mazzone’s wonder strike from 25 yards sealed the victory for South Park in a hard fought game with Thamesmead Town in which both sides ended with 10 men.
Elliott slid into clear as Parrish was about to shoot to deny the visitors an early opportunity. Mazzone’s through ball picked out Smith’s run however Carey was off his line smartly to collect. Thamesmead caught Park knapping with a short corner which was then played into the near post where Parrish headed straight at Thomas. O’Sullivan’s cross picked out Pullin who at full stretch saw his header come back off the post and be cleared. Park thought that they should have had a penalty in the 31st minute when Mazzone appeared to have been brought down however the referee waved away their appeals. Park’s dismay was short lived as barely 30 seconds later they took the lead when Chris Smith’s 20 yard shot flew into the top corner with the help of a deflection. A long ball from Thomas was dummied by Mazzone for Smith to run onto however Carey blocked his shot.
Thomas saved a shot from half time substitute Pacquette in the opening stages of the second half. Thamemead levelled the scores in the 50th minute when a right wing corner was headed back across goal for Jake McIntyre to head home from close range. Carey pushed Mazzone’s shot behind for a corner from which Mazzone’s shot on the turn flew over the bar. Park were reduced to ten men when Dean Lovegrove picked up his second caution in the 68th minute. However the ten men responded well and in the 74th minute Park regained the lead as Jackson held the ball up and played in Smith wide on the right who squared the ball to Mazzone and his left foot shot from 25 yards gave Carey in the Town goal no chance. Thamesmead were reduced to ten men late in the game when goal scorer Mcintyre was shown a straight red card for a foul on Lavery. In stoppage time another long range effort from Mazzone flew narrowly over the bar.
Park have further home fixture this week against Herne Bay on Tuesday and Guernsey on Saturday.
